Hollywood star Ben Affleck is back to his hunky best - and it's all down to the new lady in his life, gorgeous Alias star Jennifer Garner. Since his high-profile split with J.Lo in January, Ben, 32, has looked overweight, overtired and downright dishevelled. But recent pictures prove the actor has finally kicked his unhealthy lifestyle into touch, not only rediscovering his trim and sexy former self, but also picking up a hot new girlfriend along the way.
Ben was first linked to 32-year-old Jennifer in July, when she was filming Daredevil spin-off Elektra. The glamorous couple refused to confirm the rumours - probably because Jennifer only split with her boyfriend, Michael Vartan, in August. But despite this, on-set sources said at the time, `They haven't made a secret of their relationship. They've been seen several times getting very hot together. When Ben turns up on set, he also hangs out with Jennifer in her trailer during filming breaks.' Friends claim the pair have already declared `undying love' for each other, and Jennifer has reportedly described sex with Ben as `knee-shaking - the best in my life!'
Despite his scruffy appearance, Ben hasn't exactly been lonely since his infamous break-up with La Lopez. He dated pretty TV executive Enza Sambataro, 26, for two months before she dumped him in early August, saying, `I didn't want to live in the shadow of Ben. I didn't want to lose my identity, give up my family, my friends and a career I love, to go and live in a shallow place like LA. I was the first one after J.Lo, so I know it was tough for the media not to focus on me.'
However, other sources claim the real reason for their split was Ben's increasing fondness for Ms Garner.
Jennifer is a well-known fitness fanatic, often rising at 5am to complete a gruelling training schedule or do a bit of kick boxing, in keeping with her action-girl roles. Interestingly, Ben began to get in shape at exactly the same time rumours began surfacing they were an item. The Good Will Hunting star is reported to have hired four (yes, four) alternative lifestyle coaches in a bid to get ultra-fit. An insider says, `Ben has gone health- mad. He became aware he was addicted to junk food. As well as a personal trainer, he has a personal nutritionist, a lifestyle guru and is planning to employ an acupuncturist.'
Given the couple's complicated romantic history, it's no surprise they wanted to keep their budding relationship under wraps. Jennifer certainly has a penchant for her co-stars. She was married for two and a half years to actor Scott Foley, who she met on the US TV show Felicity, but she filed for divorce in May 2003, citing `irreconcilable differences'. After this, she began her relationship with Alias co-star Michael Vartan - although the Hollywood rumour mill was linking the pair even before her marriage to Scott ended.
Jennifer says, `I was broken-hearted to end my marriage. I wanted to be married for as long as my parents. It sounds a cliche, but we really were victims of Hollywood. Everything is sped up here - it's a fast-lane life, and if something is not working, it's considered best to end it without much thought. If we lived where I was brought up, we would probably still be together.'
Also, unlike Ben's ex-fiancee Jennifer Lopez, who resented the attention `Bennifer mark I' got, Ms Garner has a far more realistic attitude to fame. `Every job has a flip side,' she says. `You cannot have the greatness of this job, which is challenging and ridiculously well rewarded, without other things. I have perks beyond my dreams. I can make a sick child smile, help raise money for charities and make things happen I would never have believed. That is all good. The bad is you lose the illusion of having a personal life that is truly private. But the good by far outstrips the bad. I'm not saying I don't get irritated by cameras poking at me when I am on a date - it's just not that serious, is it?'
So will she soon be saying the same about her fling with Ben? Watch this space...
