Everyone's Favourite Pirate Johnny Depp
The quirky superstar shines as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which swashbuckles its way onto Sky Movies this month. How come he's so popular with both the guys and the gals?
Girls love Johnny because.....
He's an all-round nice guy. When relative newcomer Keira Knightley arrived on the set of POTC, she was in awe of Johnny. But the Hollywood star was a sweetheart. "Johnny is fantastic. He's a lovely bloke, very funny, very down to earth," said Keira.
He's a family man. Johnny and his partner, Vanessa Paradis, have two children, Lily-Rose, five, and Jack, three. (Note: the article has Lily-Rose's age wrong.) They live in St. Tropez where dad enjoys watching his kids grow up. "You can't imagine the degree of joy and love that's available until you have a kid," he gushes.
He's gorgeous. At 42, Johnny boasts the kind of chiselled cheekbones, puppy-dog eyes and lean look that would make men half his age jealous. Even celebrated beauty Keira Knightley was agog when she started work on POTC with him: "I remember going, 'Omigod, that's Johnny Depp over there!"
He's passionate. He doesn't just date, he falls madly in love. He was engaged to actresses Jennifer Grey, Sherilynn Fenn, Winona Ryder and model Kate Moss, and now lives with singer Vanessa Paradis. "Whammo, man...amazing, incredible, awesome," he says of the first time he saw her.
He loves his mom.
When Johnny's career took off with the TV series 21 Jump Street in 1987, he said: "I won't let my mom (Betty Sue) wait tables any more."
He has a sense of humor.
We all love a man who can make us laugh, and Johnny's shown his comedy credentials on British TV screens. He's already made a cameo in The Fast Show, as a customer to the "Suits You!" men, and it's rumoured he'll appear in Little Britain.
Boys love Johnny because....
The babes fall at his feet.
Mr. Depp can count many of the world's most beautiful women as exes, and it's been said that global style icon Kate Moss has never got over him. "I knew from the first moment we talked that we were going to be together," she has said. "I've never had that before." Wow.
He's a real rebel.
"I understand (Hollywood) now pretty much, and if I play it, it's on my terms." While filming POTC, studio execs were so worried about Johnny's rock 'n roll performance that they almost pulled the plug. "My whole point was: You've seen the stuff I've done before, what did you think I was going to do?"
He's such a rock 'n roller.
He once owned cool L.A. nightclub The Viper Room, was arrested for trashing a New York hotel room in 1994, and in 1999 spent several hours in a London police cell after chasing the paparazzi with a plank. "I've done much worse things and not been arrested for them," he said later.
Despite fame and fortune - he's earning $18 million from playing Willy Wonka alone - he's not flash. He couldn't give a hoot for the Oscars. Of last year's event, when he was up for Best Actor, he said, "All Vanessa and I could think of was when and where can we go smoke, where can we get a drink and when is it over?"

He can play rascals (OUATIM), eccentrics (Ed Wood) - you name it. "God, I feel like a little kid right now talking about a hero, but he's the man," said Pirates co-star Orlando Bloom.
He snogs the world's most gorgeous women for money.
Johnny's locked lips with beauties such as Penelope Cruz, Heather Graham and Juliette Binoche. And gets paid for it.
