 If there are two women, or should I say girls, that everyone finds annoying yet mysteriously intriguing, it's the heiresses to the Hilton (of the Hilton hotels) fortune, Paris Hilton, and her younger sister Nicky Hilton. These ladies really haven't done anything to merit being in the spotlight besides having a powerful last name attached to their otherwise crazy antics. While Paris, the older, more daring sister tries to grab headlines as often as possible, her sister Nicky follows in her shadow, attempting to mimic her sister's over-the-top actions. Some say any publicity is good publicity, but I beg to differ.
Not only do they show up at every party in the free world, but they also make spectacles of themselves to ensure that they get a media mention in virtually every paper. While dating Leo DiCaprio and Edward Furlong may have helped Paris' name, she really doesn't deserve all the press she's been getting. Apparently, she's the newest "It" girl; so what is It exactly?
No Place Like Paris
Paris Hilton has made headlines more than once. She pushed her way through a long line of people waiting for the bathroom and when confronted about her rudeness, she barked that she just wanted to look at herself in the mirror.
When a man in the unisex washroom asked someone else who she was, Paris Hilton immediately gave the guy an earful. She boasted that she was an actress, bi-coastal, and a model. As well, she's starting a modeling company and a makeup company. That was a couple of years ago.
Another time, Paris was out with a male model for an agency party at Studio 54 and began locking lips with him, and even went so far as to go topless in the club. Unfortunately, another woman stole her spotlight when she decided to strip naked and take attention away from the heiress.
What's Worse?
The media dedicates its attention to celebrities of the world, but what does it tell you when socialites who have contributed zilch to the entertainment industry get more mentions than second-rate stars who are at least, well, second-rate stars?
The point is that all these people put themselves out there so that the world can give them more attention than they deserve. But when the world starts paying attention to those that don't deserve it at all, one has to wonder what the hell is going on.
Paris and Nicky Hilton have gotten more attention in the last couple of years than most celebrities ever do, and that's because if they make fools of themselves, nothing can be taken away from them -- except their allowance for the week perhaps.
Movie stars and the like may be scarred for life, however, if they behave like schoolchildren whilst out on the town. Look at Dennis Rodman; his antics went so far that the media stopped covering his stunts period.
It's one thing to go to a party to get noticed, it's a whole other ballgame when you're attending everything because you're starved for the spotlight.
