Tarkan Talks About New Album
Tarkan's long awaited album has been reported to have an October 25, 2005 release.
Explaining that he had returned from the USA to go on tour for concerts in Istanbul, Turkey and Europe, Tarkan said, "I'm very excited, I have surprises in store for my fans!"
Returning to Istanbul from continuing his music projects in the USA, Tarkan caused a stir at Atatürk Airport. Passengers and workers all raced to take pictures with the star.
In response to reporters' questions, Tarkan confided that he would be giving concerts in Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Baku (in Azerbaijan) and Almata (in Kazakhstan).
Explaining that his music efforts in the USA were going well, Tarkan commented that he wouldn't be giving a release date for the long-awaited English album.
Here is a transcript from the interview, which was aired on Show TV's main magazine program "Sunday Suprises":
Presenter/voice-over: We saw Tarkan leaving for America last week, and now he is back after a short space of absence. Tarkan, despite a tiring journey, didn't let down his fans and took time to oblige picture requests. Starting a series of concerts soon, did Tarkan return to recover his spirits?
Tarkan: Yes. That's why I've returned. For the Turkish and European tour. I'm ready for the concerts. It's been a long time since I went to Germany and visited my fans there. Stops are also planned for Russia, Baku and Almata...so wait for me, I'm coming, with a great deal of excitement!
Presenter: Even though he was so tired that he was finding it hard to stay standing, the press were not going to let Tarkan go and held him to a barage of questions...
...As everyone is aware, the most talked-about subject at the moment is the Eurovision Song Contest...Winning the Eurovision Song Contest with Sertab Erener's song with English lyrics, this year group Athena will also be representing Turkey with a song with English lyrics. Were he to perform the Eurovision, what type of song would Tarkan have chosen?
Tarkan: I would have blended the two together, because we are Turkish after all. This is a world-wide contest, so in my opinion the song lyrics should be in English and Turkish. In some areas Turkish words should be used...my songs are known outside of Turkey, and they are not in English.
Female reporter: (agreeing) yes
Tarkan: I would have mixed the together I guess.
Presenter: So in Tarkan's view, what was more important, the singer's show or the song?
Tarkan: In my opinion the whole thing. A weak song with weak lyrics with a strong show, in my opinion, shouldn't get much attention, it's when the two parts are blended harmoniously, that you get success up on the stage. The song is important, because it should be something that can move everybody, otherwise they won't get it.
Presenter: For a long time everybody has been eagerly waiting for the release of Tarkan's English album. When would the popstar be releasing his new songs for the fans, we wonder?
Tarkan: You can't rush these things, and I am also a perfectionist when it comes to my work. I want it to be great. And maybe err...it has taken a lot of years, but in my opinion it hasn't take so long, everything is happening when it was meant to happen, at the right time. So (sighing) don't ask, because I can't tell you a day or a month that it'll be released. If the date changes, it'll give the view that it's been postponed again and I don't want that (female reporter voicing her understand here). I don't want people to be disappointed. When it comes out, I want it to be good.
